Institute was an American alternative rock band, in which the former Bush - frontman Gavin Rossdale is involved. The band's only album ( Distort Yourself ) was released on September 13, 2005.

Band history

Institute was formed in 2004 after internal problems in Gavin Rossdale's other band, Bush. Rossdale teamed up with Chris Traynor , who took over the guitarist role after former Bush guitarist Nigel Pulsford left on the last Bush tour. Traynor is also active in the American rock band Helmet (band) as a guitarist. Institute was later completed with bassist Cache Tolman ( Rival Schools ) and drummer Josh Freese . Freese only worked for a short time at Institute as the band needed a drummer to record their debut album Distort Yourself . Charlie Walker later took over from Freese.

After the band was signed to Interscope Records (the first three Bush albums were also released through Interscope), Rossdale began working on Distort Yourself with producer and Helmet frontman Page Hamilton .

The album was released on September 13, 2005 and debuted on the US Billboard charts at number 81. The first single by the band Bullet-Proof Skin , which was also part of the soundtrack for the Hollywood film Stealth , reached number 29 as the highest ranking on the Billboard charts.

Institute's live repertoire also includes numerous successful Bush songs, such as B. Machinehead , The People That We Love , Swallowed, and Glycerine .

In 2005, Institute was the opening act for U2 at numerous concerts on their Vertigo world tour.

The band broke up in 2006 after only one album.
