occupation

Köln 50667 is a German reality soap opera from the TV station RTL II . It has been broadcast daily Monday to Friday in the evening program since January 7, 2013 and is produced by the Cologne-based production company filmpool . Initially, 120 episodes were commissioned for the first season, but due to the high ratings, the series will continue to be produced for an indefinite period.

The series is a direct spin-off of the reality soap opera Berlin - Day & Night . With the character Meike Weber, a main character from Berlin - Tag & Nacht was taken over in order to place the series in the same series universe . The name of the soap refers to the zip code (50667) of Cologne's old town (area around the cathedral ) and is based on the television series Beverly Hills, 90210 .

production

Before the series started broadcasting, RTL II had commissioned 120 episodes. Due to sustained good and satisfactory audience ratings during the course of the broadcast, the series was extended to the end of the year in March 2013, 250 episodes were produced and broadcast by then. At the beginning of October 2013, RTL II announced the extension for a further year, 240–250 new episodes were produced by the end of 2014. Production has continued since then.

style

The series simulates a special reporting style. The visual language works with a shaky hand-held camera aesthetic . The individual scenes are usually canceled, although the viewer has the impression that the plot and dialogues from the respective scene are not yet over. There is a quick cut back and forth between the actions and locations of the various characters. Short sequences from different locations in Cologne are repeatedly displayed with music. In contrast to other series from the scripted reality genre (such as Berlin - Tag & Nacht or X-Diaries ), interviews with the characters that comment on the plot were dispensed with for a long time. Instead, they expressed their feelings and opinions in addition to the action via voice-over . Since episode 971, they have switched from voice-over to commentary interviews.

Locations

Former locations were the Kunstbar am Dom, Cologne-Altstadt-Süd ( Kranhaus apartment), Cologne-Nippes (Diegos WG), Cologne-Ehrenfeld (Base), Sophias WG, Felix 'apartment (with Lea) and Hürth (Jeromes WG) .

content

Beginning and intro

Before each episode begins, there is a short scene from the episode. The intro has a duration of approx. 20 seconds and the title music, the song It's My Life by Dr. Alban , can be heard. At the beginning you can see the four letters of the word Cologne in large letters and behind them the postcode that gives the title. Then two of the main characters, who have a certain relationship to each other, are shown together in a scene, with the respective name next to the person. The intro was renewed for the second time in June 2015, characters that had already dropped out were removed and the quality was further improved. In the background you can see various silhouettes of well-known Cologne buildings, such as B. the Cologne Cathedral, the Hohenzollern Bridge or the Colonius television tower in Cologne. Since episode 503, the series logo can be seen at the bottom left. Individual pictures and the names of the characters have been shown since 2016.

Action at the beginning

Meike falls in love with Alex, the owner of a trendy bar in downtown Cologne, and moves from Berlin to Cologne for him. Her sudden appearance causes unrest in the solid bar community that sees itself as family. Alex's daughter Anna (16) is also not enthusiastic about her father's new love, as she has a mother-daughter relationship with Alex's ex-girlfriend Sam.

In addition to this guide, the everyday life of various employees and friends from the bar is shown. The age of the main characters was initially between 16 and 68 years.

Current main characters

The main characters of the series are (as of July 2020):

Jan Bremer

Jan is a taxi driver and after Alex's death is now the sole owner of the cage . Because of his looks, he had feared that he would not stand a chance with women. Jan was married to Holly until she cheated on him with Chico. He had a heart attack because of his divorce and work in the cage . He has been in a relationship with Sophia for a few months. Although Jan is a happy personality who always tries to do good to other people, he is also very analytical and can look behind other people's facade.

Diego Cortez

Diego often appears with his Spanish awkwardness, but essentially has a good heart and is very vulnerable when it comes to love. He was in a relationship with Joleen and Aurelie for a long time. At the moment, Diego is a happy single who takes a lot of backfiring actions with his best friend Kevin. He works as a service person in the cage and is the owner of the agency Eros und Partner .

Meike Nowak born Weber

Patrick Schumann

Patrick is a former boxing buddy of Alex who puts loyalty and honesty first. His helpful manner, however, is often his undoing, as people like his mother Beate take advantage of them. In addition to his main job as a fitness trainer, he also practices many other activities. Over the years his family circle expanded through his half-sister Lucy, his mother Beate and his daughter Charlie, who visited her birth father independently.

Kevin "Kev" Bochow

Kevin is a lovable slob who stands by his emotions. This can be seen when Aurelie's adoptive mother Claudia aborted their child against his will. Over the years, he has evolved and matured in terms of relationships and career. He works as a waitress in the cage and now runs the kiosk café, the Bunte Tüte , which he founded with his ex-girlfriend Dana. He is now in a relationship with Stella.

Ben Straubinger

Sophia Luprano

Sophia is a spirited Italian. She is caring, but also vulnerable, and tries to cope with life by all means. Sophia worked in the catering industry and ran her own restaurant, Salotto , for some time . She was in a relationship with Manu and then with Felix and opened a delicatessen shop with her father in Italy after Felix's death was clarified. After the bankruptcy, she returned to Cologne, where she has been fighting for her financial independence again. Sophia now has a harmonious relationship with Jan.

Julia "Jule" Reuter, b. Klaasen

Jule is Marc's wife. She has a difficult relationship with her family, especially with her sister Kathi. Jule is a trained paramedic and works with Marc and some good friends at the ambulance station. She was in a vegetative state for several months after a serious car accident. Since waking up she has been able to find her way back into everyday life and stepped with Marc in front of the altar. The two are happily married and live with their friends in Jules' shared flat.

Marc Reuter

Marc is Jules' husband. Over the years he has worked his way up from paramedic to head of the ambulance station. After the death of his girlfriend Lara, his colleague Jule helped him to process what he had experienced, whereupon he fell in love with her. After Jule was in a coma, the two married. They continue to live in a shared apartment with their friends.

Lea Hammerschmidt

Lea is the managing director of the Cage Club. She initially fell in love with Alex, who after a brief affair decided on Mel. Deeply injured, she resorted to drastic measures: she falsely accused him of rape, whereupon he was threatened with prison. Because of this lie Lea was admitted to psychiatry, returned to everyday life after a few months and has proven that she has improved. But then she caught up with her past with her former stepfather and tormentor Kai, who is now behind bars. But Lea convinced her friends that she has changed. She is in a relationship with Ben, the half-brother of her archenemy Mel.

Oliver "Olli" Korte

Olli is Mel's brother, with whom he had no contact for years after she could no longer endure her father's alcohol consumption and ran away. When the latter was surprisingly at her door, she was there for him immediately and helped him to get his gambling addiction under control. His two children Sarah and Jason, whom he has with his ex-wife Tamara, mean everything to him. When it comes to love, a lot has gone wrong at Olli, including with Elli, Leonie and Stella. The fact that his father had two illegitimate sons, Ben and Marc, was a painful situation for Olli at the beginning, but over time he came to terms with his new addition to the family. He works in Kevin's kiosk.

Freddy Reuter

Freddy is Marc's little cousin. When he could no longer stand it at home with his mother Nicole due to her abusive alcohol consumption, Marc took him in. He works as a service person in the cage . He lost his virginity to Lucy. After that he was in a relationship with Sina and later with Charlie. Freddy lives in Jules' shared flat and is good friends with Tom.

Clara "Bo" Borkmann

Bo is Patrick's ex-girlfriend. The two have known each other since childhood, which they spent together in the home, and are therefore deeply connected emotionally. Bo worked as a prostitute for years until Patrick found her and freed her from the brothel. Their relationship finally collapsed when Bo lost their child. She now lives in a shared flat with her friend Leonie and Lea, Toni and Olli.

Leonie Teubert

Leonie is Elli's twin sister. After a love drama about Ellis' ex Olli, she fell in love with Mick, an old friend of her foster father Alex. However, he became violent over time and mistreated her for a long time. In a night and fog action, she killed him in self-defense in the presence of Sophia, with whom she is now good friends. Leonie has now overcome this trauma and lives with her friend Bo as well as Lea, Toni and Olli in a large flat share.

Oskar Straubinger

Oskar is the son of Ben and Mel's nephew. After his aunt Mel has agreed to take him and his sister in, the pubescent teenager explores Cologne. He got to know the much older Lea and the two became a couple, which was a thorn in Mel's side. They are now separated again. Oskar befriends Nelli's ex Luca.

reception

“Tattooed women in a catfight with tattooed men. Drinking teenagers who say 'I need alcohol'. [...] And someone keeps saying 'piss off' and 'shit' or 'fooling around' [...] 'This Asian TV is a shame and pulls the city and its people in the mud across the country'. "

"" For a long time lower-class TV was not an issue. But secretly, quietly and quietly, RTL2 has established new trash formats. Today the soap "Cologne 50667" starts. [...] The interest is already gigantic. ""
