Großtreben is a village in the northern district of North Saxony .

history

The place arose from a Sorbian settlement. It was first mentioned in a document as Treben in 1238 . In the following period it developed as a street village . There is evidence of a manor house since the 13th century. In the 18th century, the place name Groß Treben solidified .

A brick factory was built in the 19th century and continued to produce until after the end of World War II. The ring furnace here was built in 1861–65 and is the oldest completely preserved ring furnace of this type in Germany.

On April 1, 1974, the village of Dautzschen was incorporated into Großtreben. On January 1, 1994, it merged with the community of Zwethau to form the community of Großtreben-Zwethau . On January 1, 2011 the incorporation takes place in Beilrode .
