Großtreben-Zwethau

Großtreben-Zwethau was a municipality in the district of North Saxony , Saxony . Until the merger with Beilrode on January 1, 2011, it belonged to the Beilrode administrative association.

Geographical location

The former municipality is located in the Elbe lowlands east of the Elbe and on the western edge of the Annaburg Heath in the triangle with the states of Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt . The neighboring towns are Torgau (15 km), Jessen (20 km) and Herzberg (21 km). The federal highway 87 runs south of the former municipality.

Former districts

history

The area of ​​the municipality has been around since around 1000 BC. Settled in BC, wooden axes and urns from this period were found. The community was created on January 1, 1994 through the merger of the towns of Großtreben and Zwethau.

  • Zwethau

As early as 981, Zwethau was first mentioned in a document as the oldest town in the municipality in a document by Emperor Otto II , when he donated Zuetie Castle and the surrounding land to Memleben monastery.

  • Großtreben and Dautzschen

Großtreben is first mentioned in a document as Treben in 1238 , Dautzschen in 1242.

  • Screeching

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Kreischau was incorporated into Zwethau.

  • Großtreben-Zwethau

The new municipality of Beilrode was created on January 1, 2011 through the merger of the previous municipalities of Beilrode and Großtreben-Zwethau.
