About this picture

Löbnitz is a municipality in the north of Saxony on the border with Saxony-Anhalt .

Geography and traffic

Seelhausen lake
Old hollow in Roitzschjora

Löbnitz is located on the Mulde , between the Leipzig lowland bay and the Dübener Heide . Neighboring towns of Löbnitz are Delitzsch (14 km), Pouch (5 km), Bitterfeld (15 km), Bad Düben (9 km) and Badrina (8 km).

Up until a few years ago, Goitzsche lignite was mined in the western part of the municipality . The remaining open pit holes, which have now been flooded, are being recultivated and transformed into a recreational landscape. So now in the west of the municipality is the 6.22 square kilometer Seelhauser See . The flooding was accelerated by the flood of the century in August 2002, as the Mulde dike broke between Löbnitz and Pouch and the Mulde flood caused the Goitzsche opencast mine to overflow.

The state road 12 from Bad Duben to the border with Pouch performs Löbnitz. The B 183a runs south of the community . In the district of Roitzschjora there is an airfield designated as a commercial airfield .

Until 1964 there was still a ferry connection across the Mulde to Rösa .

In 1896 a meeting of interests met in Löbnitz to build a railway line from Eilenburg to Bad Düben , with which the community would have been connected to the railway network. Construction never started.

Löbnitz with the two manor districts castle and court and the manor resident in the village belonged to the electoral office of Delitzsch until 1815 . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Löbnitz was assigned to the smaller district of Delitzsch in the Leipzig district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 . Löbnitz has been part of the Northern Saxony district since 2008.
