Geographical location

The district of Sausedlitz is located between Delitzsch in the southwest and Löbnitz in the east on the Leine stream. In its place was the Sausedlitz district of Seelhausen, which was excavated by the Goitzsche opencast lignite mine until 1987 .

Sausedlitz am Leinebach was mentioned for the first time in 1349 in a loan book of Frederick the Strict . The oldest form of the name of the place is the Slavic place name Ciusedlitz . It is derived from the Slavic word soused , which means neighbor . The Angerdorf Sausedlitz originally belonged to the Wendish district of Siusli . In 1456 the place was mentioned in a property listing of the Saxon Elector. From this the Lords of Schönfeld acquired it before 1464. In 1707 Sausedlitz came into the possession of the Vitzthum von Eckstädt family , who owned the estate until it was expropriated in 1945.

The place and the manor Sausedlitz located here belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office of Eilenburg as an exclave until 1815 . Through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , they came to Prussia and in 1816 were assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony , to which they belonged until 1952. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Sausedlitz was assigned to the newly tailored Delitzsch district in the Leipzig district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

In 1973 the neighboring town of Seelhausen to the north was incorporated. With the expansion of the Goitzsche opencast mine to the north, Sausedlitz was declared a mining protection area in 1980. The MIBRAG bought in 1983 forcibly forests and arable land. Because of the planned lignite mining, resettlement began in 1986 in Sausedlitz and in the Seelhausen district. As a result, the population fell from 410 to 180 in 1990. While Seelhausen was dredged over ( devastated ) in the following year , Sausedlitz was largely spared this fate due to the political change and the associated change in energy policy. When 50 percent of the population had already been resettled in 1989 and the excavators were only a few 100 meters away from the village, the Sausedlitzers began to fight for the preservation of their village. Its success was sealed on February 28, 1990 by a Council of Ministers resolution of the GDR government, which decided to stop the lignite mining in the Goitzsche. The subsequent revitalization was carried out as part of the “Rural Areas Action Program”.

On March 1, 1994, Sausedlitz was incorporated into the community of Löbnitz. In 1996 Sausedlitz won the competition "Our village should be more beautiful - our village has a future". In 2000 there was a participation in the “European Village Renewal” competition. The open-cast mine on the site of the former district of Seelhausen was flooded between 2000 and 2005 and has since formed the Seelhausen lake .
