The Northern Institute of Technology Management (NIT) is a private educational institution in the south of Hamburg , which was founded in 1998 by 40 professors from the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH). The founding father and first President of the NIT was the renowned scientist and former President of the Technical University Prof. Hauke Trinks . It was initially founded under the name "Northern Institute of Technology". The addition "Management" was added by renaming the company in December 2007.

At the NIT, engineers, scientists and economists from all over the world learn how to sustainably and responsibly master management and leadership tasks in a global world. The offer of the NIT stands under the motto “BE THE CHANGE” and consists of an English-language course in technology management ( MA and MBA ) as well as various advanced training courses and workshops.

Course of study

The NIT trains German and international students to become technology managers. Every year in October between 25 and 35 high potentials from all over the world start the technology management ( MA / MBA ) course. The NIT degree can be studied in several ways:

Regardless of the desired degree, the focus of the course is the “MyProject” module. In “MyProject” the students develop their own project, which is further developed over the course of the entire course and can be expanded into their own business idea.

The NIT works with a “flying faculty”. All lecturers come from renowned, international universities or companies and are only employed for their module at the NIT. The NIT can thus guarantee high quality and topicality of teaching and constantly fall back on new knowledge from science and business. The technology management course is accredited by FIBAA and the German Accreditation Council. The technology management course lasts around 24 to 30 months and is held in English. The presence pages are exclusively on weekends, so that the MBA course can be completed alongside work or in addition to a doctorate.

Learning concept

With the reaccreditation of the technology management course at the start of the 2019 semester, the NIT has developed its own learning concept. In an international learning environment, the students test their knowledge on real projects. The concept dispenses with frontal teaching and is based on internationally renowned lecturers as learning guides who support the students. This learning concept requires a high degree of initiative on the part of the students and consists of group work , online-based self-study and selected attendance times.

further education

In addition to the range of courses, the NIT has also developed into a location for in-company training since 2014 . Employees and managers can attend individual workshops, lectures or seminars lasting several days at the NIT or book in-house programs for their company. Under the name "NIT Toolbox", the NIT offers further training in the areas of: New Technologies, Digital Competence, Innovative Methods and People & Culture. The topics covered in these workshops include: digitization , global management , new leadership, entrepreneurship , design thinking and others. The workshops enable participants to better assess and design topics such as digital transformation or IT security in the company.

Hamburg Economic Dialog

Since January 2017, the NIT has been holding the Hamburg Economic Dialogue once a quarter. The series of events regularly invites managing directors, entrepreneurs and founders to talk about the working world of the future. The topics Industry 4.0 , 3D printing , IT security and blockchain have already been discussed. The free event takes place at changing locations in the form of a panel discussion .

building

Most of the NIT students live directly in the NIT building, which has 65 apartments. The building is located on the campus of the Hamburg University of Technology in Hamburg-Harburg . Rooms for conferences, meetings and workshops can also be rented at the NIT: In Hamburg-Harburg , the Northern Institute of Technology Management provides seminar and conference rooms, a design thinking room and office space on the TUHH campus .

On the wall of the foyer there is a work by the Austrian concept artist Peter Friedl , which has the phrase "nobody knows science" as its theme.
