160 meter tape

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The frequency range from 1.8 MHz to 2.0  MHz is called the 160 meter band . It is in the medium wave spectrum . The name is derived from the wavelength of this frequency range.

Propagation conditions

After sunset, ranges of several 1000 km are possible, as the D-layer of the ionosphere has completely disappeared and a reflection now takes place in the lower area of the F-layer . The D-layer , which is close to the earth's surface, dampens the sky waves during the day, which results in shorter ranges.

160 meter amateur band

Although the band is actually part of medium wave, it is widely used in amateur radio parlance as a shortwave band .

Band plan

The amateur radio - band plan is as follows:

Frequency range Max. Bandwidth use
1.810-1.838 MHz 0200 Hz CW, activity center QRP 1836 kHz
1.838-1.840 MHz 0500 Hz Narrow band
1.840-1.843 MHz 2700 Hz all operating modes, digimode
1.843-2.000 MHz 2700 Hz all operating modes

Germany

As a result of the Federal Network Agency's announcement no. 694/2017 published at the end of 2017, the contest was tolerated in the ranges 1.850–1.890 MHz and 1.890–2,000 MHz on weekends. This regulation was valid until June 30, 2019. Communication No. 535/2019 published in August 2019, in addition to the contest operation in the aforementioned areas on weekends, also set a maximum transmission power in these areas for amateur radio operation on weekends of 750 W PEP for owners of the Admission to participation in Class A amateur radio service and 100 W PEP for Class E holders . This corresponds to the maximum permissible transmission power of the respective classes for the amateur radio service in Germany. The regulations according to Communication No. 535/2019 are limited to December 31, 2020.Template: future / in 5 years
