630 meter tape

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The frequency range from 472  kHz to 479 kHz is called the 630 meter band . It is in the medium wave spectrum . The name is derived from the wavelength of this frequency range.

Propagation conditions

After sunset, ranges of several 1000 km are possible, as the D-layer of the ionosphere has completely disappeared and a reflection now takes place in the lower area of the F-layer . The D-layer , which is close to the earth's surface, dampens the sky waves during the day, which results in shorter ranges.

630 meter amateur band

The World Radio Conference 2012 (WRC-12) assigned the amateur radio service from January 1, 2013 the frequency range 472–479 kHz worldwide with secondary status. The 630 meter band is - after the 160 meter band  - the second amateur radio band in the medium wave range. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) had previously spoken out against such an allocation because it feared harmful interference with existing and future radio systems of the mobile maritime service .

Implementation at national level for Germany by adapting the AFuV is planned by the Federal Network Agency. With the official gazette No. 11/2012 of June 13, 2012, the tolerance of use by radio amateurs of class A with a maximum radiation power of 1 W ERP was declared in advance.

Band plan

The amateur radio band plan is as follows (preliminary):

Frequency range Max. Bandwidth use comment
472-479 kHz 800 Hz Narrow band modes 1 W ERP - consideration for other users
