The German Accreditation Council (DAR) was a German umbrella organization of the accreditation bodies . On January 1, 2010, this was absorbed by the German Accreditation Body .

history

The purpose was to create a transparent, uniform and internationally recognized accreditation system in Germany for both the legally regulated and the legally non-regulated areas. This results in the following tasks of the DAR:

  • Documentation, registration (e.g. registration of the German accreditation and recognition bodies of test laboratories , certification and monitoring bodies , mutual information, maintenance of a central accreditation and recognition database)
  • Creation of a framework for the German accreditation system (regulation of cooperation, establishment of uniform rules for certificates, logo and expert training)
  • Promotion of international cooperation through participation in international bodies and organizations in the field of accreditation
  • public relation

The office was located at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin .

As part of the European Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008 (Article 4 Paragraph 1), all EU member states had to designate a single national accreditation body from January 1, 2010. For this reason, all German accreditation bodies, u. a. also the umbrella organization DAR, merged into the German Accreditation Body in order to still get a national German accreditation body after December 31, 2009.
