The Dessauer Spielvereinigung von 1898 was a German football club from Dessau that existed from 1898 to 1945. The association is also under the name Dessauer FC 1898 known .

history

On March 20, 1898, the club was founded under the name Dessauer FC 1898 in Dessau . In 1911, the club was renamed Dessauer Spielvereinigung from 1898 , or Dessauer SV 98 for short . The club played in the Gauliga Anhalt within the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs , but could never qualify for the Central German football final.

After the Gauligen was founded , Dessauer SV qualified for the Gauliga Mitte for the first time in 1940/41 . In the 1940/41 season you secured seventh place to stay in the league. In the season 1942/43 and the season 1943/44 , the club finished sixth at the end of the season. At the time of the Gauliga, the club played only a minor role in the city behind local rivals and six-time Gauliga champions Dessau 05 . After the Second World War , the association was dissolved in 1945.

BSG ZAB Dessau

In 1945 the club was dissolved but re-established as the Ziebigk sports group in July of the same year. This resulted in the SG Dessau-West in 1946 . In the period that followed, the company sports association changed its name again from 1951 to Stahl Dessau , Motor Nordwest Dessau , Motor Polysius Dessau and ZAB Dessau . The cement plant manufacturer Polysius acted as the sponsoring company . In terms of sport, Motor Polysius Dessau and Motor Köthen were promoted to the then fourth-class Halle district league in 1955 , which was held until 1959. The rise to the newly founded II. GDR League did not succeed despite the 1955 relay victory. Subsequently, ZAB Dessau sank again into the insignificance of GDR football.

Dessauer SV ZAB

In 1990 the club was renamed again to Dessauer SV ZAB , and in 1997 Dessauer SV went bankrupt. In the same year, the Dessauer SV 97 was re-established, which continues the tradition of the "98s". The DSV 97 is today a multi-discipline club (soccer, volleyball, bowling, badminton, running, triathlon, gymnastics) with approx. 400 members, the largest department of which is the soccer department with 196 members.
