Ludwig Gärtner (born April 19, 1919 in Lorsch , South Hesse , † June 6, 1995 ) was a German football player . The left winger of SC Olympia Lorsch , who was playing in the second division at the time, was appointed to the German national team for the first time in 1939 , and two more missions followed in 1940 and 1941. Gärtner ended his career as a footballer at the age of 39 in 1958 with his home club SC Olympia .

At his hometown club SC Olympia Lorsch , the fast left winger with secure ball control and the straightness of his game developed into one of the best wingers before and during the Second World War . With the blue-whites he failed in 1937/38 in the promotion round to Gauliga Südwest . Gärtner played three international matches between 1939 and 1941: the first on August 27, 1939, when he played 0-2 in Slovakia, where he represented the German colors with nine players from Vienna as well as goalkeeper Jürissen and defender Immig. His second came on October 20, 1940 at 7-3 over Bulgaria, where he scored a special goal with the 1-0 opening goal: the 500th goal in DFB international match history.
