The SC Olympia Lorsch 1907 is a football club from the small town of Lorsch in southern Hesse . The first phase of success for the blue-whites was in the early 1930s, when the team temporarily competed in the top division and a few years later provided a national player with Ludwig Gärtner . From 1955 to 1960 they played in the first amateur league, and in 1965 they were finally relegated to the local soccer classes. At the beginning of the 1980s, the company suddenly returned to national football for a short time, and since then SC Olympia has played in the classes of the Darmstadt / Bergstrasse football district.

history

On June 25, 1907 in the restaurant Zur Klosterschenke of FC Lorsch 1907 founded. In 1911, FC joined the Association of South German Football Associations in 1907 , and in the same year merged with the second local club, FC Viktoria, to form the Olympia 1907 sports club .

In the early years the footballers did not appear nationwide. In the course of the 1920s, when football gained enormous popularity, the SC Olympia gradually worked its way into the top leagues and finally reached the top German league at the time in the 1931/32 season with the Main / Hessen district league. In the Hessen group, Lorsch played for two years at eye level with clubs such as FSV Mainz 05 , Wormatia Worms and SV Wiesbaden , which attracted up to 5000 spectators to the "Hügeltränke". In 1933 the league system was restructured and instead of the numerous district leagues, 16 Gauligen were introduced across Germany as the new top division. As ninth in the last district league season 1932/33 , SC Olympia had to be content with second division again. In 1938 the team became relay champions, but failed in the promotion round to Gauliga Südwest , which the major club TSG 1861 Ludwigshafen , which had only been formed the year before , won. During these years, Ludwig Gärtner , a player on the left wing , played in the team of SC Olympia , which Sepp Herberger used three times in the German national team between 1939 and 1941.

After the war, the blue-whites initially played in the lower leagues, but already faced the leap into the Hessian upper house for the first time in 1953/54, but failed this year to neighbor VfR Bürstadt . The following year, the team trained by Heinz Baas around goalkeeper Karl Behres, the captain - and today's honorary captain - Hans Fassoth, center runner Karl-Heinz Rosenberger and left wing Ludwig Gärtner celebrated the relay championship with an impressive score of 58: 2 points and 139: 18 goals . After a victory over Viktoria Urberach in the district championship and a 4-1 win over SpVgg Hochheim, promotion to the 1st amateur league in Hessen was finally certain. In the highest Hessian league, however, the SC Olympia could only hold up until 1960. Striker Richard Jöst had already migrated to the top division club FSV Frankfurt in 1956, and ex-national player Gärtner had ended his active career in 1958. Then the SC Olympia played for another five years in the 2nd amateur league, the fourth level at the time, and from 1965 they said goodbye to national football. The last phase above the district level to date followed in the 1980s when the team was promoted to the Landesliga Süd. Since then, the team has played in the leagues of the Darmstadt / Bergstrasse soccer district.

In addition to soccer, other sports were also played in the club. The table tennis department founded in 1948 split off on March 1st, 1994 and has been operating under the name TTV Topspin Lorsch ever since . The tennis department founded in 1949 split off as early as 1987 and has been operating under the name TC Olympia Lorsch ever since . The last time the athletics department started its own business in 2002 under the name LC Olympia Lorsch .

Venue

In the first few years, various meadows in the municipality were used, after the First World War the club played on Heppenheimer Straße opposite the current TVgg Lorsch site. In 1925 one finally settled down at the "Hügeltränke". The facility has been expanded several times over the decades, the current clubhouse was built in 1973, and most recently the stadium was rebuilt and the grandstands renewed in the 1980s. The clubhouse, which was badly damaged by a fire in September 2004, was then redesigned. In 2014 there was another renovation, thanks to hundreds of hours of help from the club members. The entire stadium area was renewed. The athletes got a new track, as well as facilities for high jump, discus throw, javelin throw, long jump etc. The grass pitch was moved a few meters and rebuilt, as well as the grandstands. The old hard court has been replaced by a new artificial turf pitch and is one of the most modern on Bergstrasse.
