career

Associations until 1941

The FC 08 Villingen defender stood out as a compact, extremely robust and strong defender. With the black and whites from Villingen, he only succeeded in advancing to the Gauliga in the third attempt in the 1938/39 season. In the first two attempts in 1934 and 1936, Gramlich failed with his club in the promotion rounds. During the Second World War he was stationed in Fulda and played there as a guest player alongside Ludwig Gärtner in the Red-Blacks of Borussia Fulda in the Gauliga Hessen . In the 1940/41 season he was able to win the championship with Fulda and moved into the finals of the German football championship with Borussia . There he played three games against Schalke 04 and Hannover 96 . Outstanding were the 4: 3 home win on April 27, 1941 against Hanover and the narrow 1: 2 home defeat on May 11 against Schalke. Gramlich experienced a special spectacle on July 13, 1941 at the final round match for the Tschammer Cup against Kickers Offenbach , when after a 1: 5 half-time deficit, Ludwig Gärtner in particular contributed five goals to the sensational 9: 6 success. On August 3, he lost with Fulda in the second round with 3: 5 goals at 1. SV Jena and was eliminated from the cup competition.

Selection appointments until 1940

Reich trainer Otto Nerz opened the 1935/36 season with the national soccer team with a two-week course in Duisburg-Wedau. He took 60 players under the microscope and then formed two teams for the double game on August 18, 1935 in Luxembourg and Munich for the international matches against the Grand Duchy and Finland. Sepp Herberger took care of the youngsters against Luxemburg and the man from the Black Forest made his debut alongside captain Willy Busch as a left defender in the DFB-Elf. Seven days later, on August 25th, Gramlich formed the German defender pair with Reinhold Munzenberg in the 4-2 win against Romania in Erfurt. When the DFB again practiced a double match day on September 15, the man from Villingen defended the A-Eleven in Breslau in a 1-0 win against Poland with Munich's Sigmund Haringer . The B-Elf competed against Estonia in Stettin. In October and November 1935, Gramlich was a member of the Baden district selection, which had to compete in the Reichsbund Cup against Northern Hesse and Saxony. He had his last direct contact with the national team in the course before the international match on December 4, 1935 in London against England. There was no further national team appointment afterwards.

For Baden he was still active in the Reichsbund Cup in 1938 and 1939. On November 12, 1939, Gramlich lost with fellow players August Klingler , Philipp Rohr and Helmut Schneider in Stuttgart against Württemberg with 2: 4 goals. During his time in Fulda, he was also a left defender in this competition for Hessen.
