Wilhelm "Willy" Busch (born January 4, 1907 , † 1982 ) was a German football player .

Athletic career

He played as a defender in the thirties for TSV 1899 Duisburg, which went over to TuS Duisburg 48/99 from 1936 . In the German national team he was active in 13 games from 1933 to 1936. Under the leadership of trainer Otto Nerz , Willy Busch took third place at the 1934 World Cup in Italy. In these years, Duisburg 99 was clearly overshadowed by Hamborn 07 . In the Gauliga Niederrhein dominated VfL Benrath , Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hamborn 07. Only in the rounds 1936/37 and 1941/42 the TuS 1848/99 Duisburg took second places with second places. In the last round of Gauliga 1943/44, the war syndicate "SpV Duisburg / 48/99 Duisburg" won the championship on the Lower Rhine with Willy Busch.

When he made his debut in the national soccer team in Duisburg against Belgium on October 22, 1933, Reich coach Otto Nerz had another four with Jakob Bender and Theo Breuer (both Fortuna Düsseldorf), Eduard Hundt (SW Essen) and Josef Rasselnberg (VfL Benrath) Newcomers appointed to the team. In the DFB appearances during the World Cup tournament , Busch played against Sweden, Czechoslovakia and Austria. In the victorious game for third place against Austria, he formed the defender pair for the first time with Paul Janes. He was not appointed to the 1936 Olympic tournament in Berlin. On September 27, 1936 in Krefeld, he led the national team in his 13th assignment as captain on the field. The game was won 7-2 goals against Luxembourg. This ended his career in the national soccer team. He represented the German colors in 13 games. He celebrated 10 wins, experienced a draw and only suffered two defeats with his teammates.

At club level - after winning the championship in 1944 in the Gauliga Niederrhein - at the ripe old age of 37, he still played games in the final round of the German championship against FC Schalke 04 and the Luftwaffe sports club Hamburg . He remained loyal to his club for two decades. In 1948 he said goodbye as an active and took over the training management. Later he was also the coach of Duisburg FV 08 .

Professional career

He practiced the job of a municipal employee in Duisburg.
