Werner Föckler (born June 24, 1945 in Ellerstadt ) is a former German football referee .
Life
Föckler grew up in Ellerstadt and played football there at TV Ellerstadt, and later also table tennis. After attending secondary school, he began training as a lathe operator at BASF in Ludwigshafen in 1959 , which he completed in 1963. Föckler later completed the master craftsman's examination and further training to become a REFA engineer. Until his early retirement he worked as a trainer. Föckler lives in Weisenheim am Sand , is a father of three and is widowed.
Soccer
In 1969 Föckler passed the referee examination, four years later he whistled in the regional league . As early as the 1974/75 season he was a referee in the 2nd Bundesliga, in which he played a total of 104 games. In the 1980/81 season he headed a game in the 1st Bundesliga for the first time, up to the 1991/92 season Föckler was a referee in 127 Bundesliga games and in the 1985 DFB Cup final . In the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup between FC Barcelona and Standard Liège on May 12, 1982 at Camp Nou , he supported Walter Eschweiler as a linesman. From the following season 1982/83 Föckler was a FIFA referee and until his retirement in 1991 he headed 7 national and 10 European Cup games.
After leaving as a Bundesliga referee, Föckler was appointed to the teaching staff of the DFB in 1992 . In addition, he is chairman of the referee committee in the Football Regional Association Southwest and was a member of the DFB referee committee until 2016.
