The Taça Brasil (Brazil Cup) was the first national soccer competition in Brazil. The Taça was hosted in 1967 by the Brazilian Sports Federation, the CBD . The champion and runner-up were qualified to participate in the 1968 Copa Libertadores .

The winners of the Taça Brasil were seen at the time as Campeões, as champions of Brazil. The CBF refused to officially recognize the clubs as Brazilian champions until 2010.

Season course

The competition started on July 30, 1967 in its season and ended on December 29, 1967. At the end of the season, the Palmeiras São Paulo was able to win the title for the second time. In the total count of all championships since 2010, it was the third title, as Palmeiras had already won the Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa in the same year .

The top scorer was Chiclete from FC Treze with 9 goals .

Attendees

21 clubs took part. The mode consisted of a mixture of table and cup system. Participants were the winners of the 1966 state championships .

mode

After the first and second leg, only the number of wins counted, no other criteria. If both teams have won once, a playoff was played. If this did not result in a winner, the goal difference counted. If the comparison did not result in a winner, the decision was made by tossing a coin.

1st round: In the first round, the participants were divided into three regions according to their origin. In the groups, the teams met in table and cup mode. The winners were determined in the first and second legs.

Final round: The competition mode remained the same as in the first round. In the final round, the defending champions of Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte and Palmeiras São Paulo entered the competition as state champions of São Paulo in the semifinals.

Closing table

The table only served to determine the placement of the individual teams in the season. At times it was used by the association to determine an eternal ranking list. It is made up of all the games played. In the sorting, reaching the respective final phase has priority over the points scored. In the event of a tie, first the wins scored, then the goals scored.
