The ABC Futebol Clube , usually just called ABC or ABC-RN for short , is a football club in Natal , Brazil .

The association founded on June 29, 1915 by the president of the local chamber of commerce, Captain Avelino Freire, soon developed into the most successful association in the state. The 54 national championships that have now been reached are a Brazilian record, as are the ten titles in a row from 1932 to 1941. The main local competitor is America FC, with 35 national championships so far. The club name ABC is a tribute to the positive relationships between Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

Frasqueirão

The Estádio Maria Lamas Farache , which opened in 2006 and has a capacity of 18,000 , is named after the wife of a former club president, known as Frasqueirão , and is the home ground of ABC FC. The stadium is located in the Ponta Negra district , about 12 kilometers south of the city center by helicopter. It is a 25,000 m² part of the 110,000 m² Vila Olímpica Vicente Farache , named after the president himself , on the site of which further installations are to be built. One of these already has a training ground

Arena das Dunas

Since 2014, the club has occasionally used the Arena das Dunas as an alternative stadium , which also serves as the home ground for local rivals América FC .

ABC used to play its home games in the city's Estádio Dr. João Cláudio Vasconcelos Machado , Machadão for short , from. The stadium, named after a president of the federal football association (1954–74) and sports journalist, held up to 52,000 spectators after it opened in 1972. It was initially named after the Federal President Humberto de Alencar Castelo Branco (1964-67) and called "Castellão". Castelo Branco was not so well suffered after the departure of the military government in 1980, hence the renaming in 1989. Since the last renovation in 2007, the official capacity was 35,000 spectators. In 2011 the stadium was demolished to make room for the new Arena das Dunas , which was built for the 2014 World Cup .
