Harald Gröhler (2013)

Harald Gröhler (born 1938 in Hirschberg) is a German writer . His work includes novels , short stories , poetry and plays . Gröhler emerged as an essayist and editor of literary texts.

life and work

Harald Gröhler grew up in the Fichtel Mountains . As a schoolboy he undertook (sometimes high-risk) trampoline trips through southern Europe and Asia Minor. In Hof he graduated from the Albertinum (the humanistic grammar school). He studied psychology, philosophy and history in Göttingen , Kiel and Cologne . At first he worked as a freelance literary critic (including for WDR and FAZ ) and as a press photographer, then as a freelance writer. In 1972 he founded the “group intermedia”. It included two authors, a composer, two interpreting musicians, a painter, a graphic artist, and a photographer; joint public actions took place e.g. B. in Wuppertal and Cologne. The group existed until 1974. From 1976 to 1984 Gröhler was a member of the board of the “Literary Society Cologne”.

In 1976 he held two visiting professorships in literature / literary sociology at US state universities (in Texas and New Mexico ). From 1976 he smuggled manuscripts from the GDR to the West twice. In 1981 he went to Moscow as a delegate of the Association of German Writers (delegation of two) .

By 1995 he realized and moderated (as a literary event service manager, leading) over 950 writer events, including B. an anti-golf war event with authors in exile from Iraq (including Khalid Al-Maaly ) and Iran, a panel discussion (including the Minister of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia and the VS federal chairman), events for Amnesty International and others. a. with Helmut Frenz, and he led a bilingual authors' event at the Goethe Institute in Ankara .

He had readings (e.g. at the Goethe Institute in Prague ) and took part in literary events such as the “Darmstädter March” (finalist in the Leonce and Lena Prize ). He was a juror at a literary competition in the city of Cologne, gave lectures and presentations on literary theory and philosophy, e.g. E.g. at the FÖN federal meetings of environmentally committed writers or the 3rd Weimar Dialogue between politicians and writers and organized and conducted a public interview with Stasi victims in 1992.

He is a member of the PEN Center Germany , Union des poètes & Cie, the Association of the Association of German Writers in ver.di, Kogge, the Wangener Kreis (Ges. Für Lit. und Kunst), Rhein-Erft, German Society for Philosophy . He has been the chair in Plesse since 2017. He was a founding member of the Literaturhaus Köln and the group of authors of historical novels Quo vadis .

For 1994 to 1996 he was a delegate a. Coordinator of the representatives of those affected at Helmholtzplatz Berlin elected and again as a delegate for 2001 until its dissolution in 2015.

Harald Gröhler lived in Cologne from 1960 to 1990, and has lived in Berlin and Cologne since then.

Gröhler's texts were broadcast on radio, including on WDR, Deutschlandfunk, SFB, RIAS, and Bayerischer Rundfunk. Gröhler's texts have been translated into 10 languages. Gröhler's poem Vorstadtgelände was filmed on video by Phil Wohlleben / Pudel Crew (video DVD, 2010)
