Campeonato Brasileiro Série A 2003

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A 2004 was the 48th season of the Brazilian Série A .

Season course

The Série A started on April 21, 2004 in their new season and ended on December 19, 2004. In the season two teams were promoted, but four had to relegate again, as the league should be reduced to two teams in the 2005 season. The season was overshadowed by the death of the player Sérgio .

After the season, as every year, awards were given to the best players of the year. The " Golden Ball ", awarded by the sports magazine Placar , went to Robinho . The top scorer with 34 goals was Washington from Athletico Paranaense .

Death of Sérgio

On October 27, the 38th matchday, the player Sérgio from AD São Caetano died of sudden cardiac arrest. Since the club was able to prove that he knew the player's problems and did not provide him with medical care for the previous four games, 24 points were deducted from him as a punishment.
