Sportdigitalfußball (own spelling: sportdigital ) is a German specialty television program that specializes in reporting on popular ball sports .

Sports digital football broadcasts all day long and without interruption via various cable and satellite packages. The focus of the program is football . According to the motto "Football around the world", football from several countries will be broadcast live and with a time delay.

history

Under the umbrella of the rights exploiter SPORTFIVE GmbH & Co. KG, matches of the German volleyball league , the German handball league and the German basketball league were initially broadcast. The station produced its own magazine formats for the sports mentioned. After starting out in Internet television, Sportdigital has been included in the paid bouquets of some providers of digital TV via cable or satellite since spring 2008 .

In June 2009 it became known that from the 2009/10 season Sportdigital no longer has the broadcasting rights of the handball Bundesliga.

At the beginning of 2010, the sponsor SPORTFIVE withdrew from Sportdigital's pay-TV business . Since August 2010, the station has focused mainly on international football. First the Eredivisie ( Netherlands ), the Premjer League ( Russia ) and the npower Football League Championship ( England / 2nd league) were secured . Later came Major League Soccer ( USA / Canada ) and finally, surprisingly, Serie A ( Italy ). The rights of the Premjer League and Major League Soccer were extended in March 2011 by Sportdigital . The package of the Dutch Eredivisie has also been expanded to include the KNVB Cup .

At the end of December 2010, sports digital football announced a cooperation with Sky , according to which Sky should show a live Serie A game per game day. However, this did not happen due to problems with the Italian rights holder.

In November 2010, the broadcaster secured the Continental Hockey League (KHL) as another new acquisition of rights. Kickboxing has been the newest sport on Sportdigital since January 2011 . The station is in negotiations to buy more sports rights. The cooperation with internet portals also facilitates the purchase of rights.

Sportdigital is careful to show its subscribers "exclusive content". The KHL and other sports that can be seen for free on the Internet have therefore been removed from the program. Since the football season 2011/12, Sportdigital has broadcast a 30-minute matchday summary of the Italian Serie A, the Russian Premier League and the Dutch Eredivisie once a week. In October 2011 it was also announced that a program offensive would be launched with the new virtual HD-capable studio, from which the Sportdigital commentators report before and after the live games. The on-air design has also been modified. Trailers, graphics, preview mats and signatures now appear in a new look .

At the end of January 2012, the broadcaster announced that the Copa Libertadores would be broadcast live immediately . In addition, a weekly preview magazine is supposed to prepare viewers for the upcoming game day. Since February 2012, Sportdigital has also been showing games from the Polish soccer league, T-Mobile Ekstraklasa . According to a report in TV Movie from July 5, 2013, Sportdigital HD will be available from August 2013 on Sky and other platforms. Since December 1, 2015, Sportdigital has been available in HD on Sky Deutschland and Austriasat via Astra 19.2 ° East, the SD version has been discontinued. Since May 23, 2017, Sportdigital can be booked in HD via Amazon Video as a Prime customer.

From the 2014/15 season, sportdigital broadcast the Belgian Jupiler Pro League .

On August 21, 2013, Sportdigital announced in a press release about the activation of the channel at UPC Cablecom the start of the "HD broadcasting [s] [...] by the end of the year [2013]". Gisbert Wundram confirmed the plans to Digitalfernsehen.de, but was initially unable to name a platform other than UPC Cablecom for the HD offshoot. The activation has not occurred since then. In October 2014, UPC Cablecom announced via Twitter that it would be feeding into the Comfort transmitter package for November 4, 2014. The channel has previously been fed into Quickline at program slot 275 since October 28, 2014 . Since December 1, 2015, the HD offshoot has taken over the program space of the previous SD channel via satellite. In the future, the HD offshoot will start on other platforms, including in Germany. Since December 1, 2015, Sportdigital has also been available in HD on Sky Deutschland and Austriasat via Astra 19.2 ° East.

An HD offshoot of the station has been announced several times since 2010. So far, the platform operators have cited the lack of HD capacities as the reason for the postponement of the start.

Sportamerica HD

On June 11, 2013, the Commission for Approval and Supervision (ZAK) granted SPORTDIGITAL.TV Sende- und Produktions GmbH approval for a nationwide television channel called Sportamerica HD . This was preceded by an application from the operating company to the Commission for Determining Concentration in the Media Area (KEK) on May 21, 2013. The KEK's " media concentration law examination" is still pending. Gisbert Wundram, the managing director of Sportdigital, announced to Digitalfernsehen.de that they are "currently planning their own channel with the focus on US sports under the working name Sportamerica HD". The background is the discontinuation of the channels ESPN America on June 30, 2013 and ESPN America HD on July 31, 2013. Wundram could imagine a seamless transition and feed "the channel from August 1, 2013" on different platforms. There is an interest in taking over vacant broadcasting rights from ESPN America, in particular for the NFL , MLB and NHL . Broadcasts of basketball are also planned. Initially, the start of the station is planned "in the SD packages" of the cable and IPTV providers. According to TVSportsMarkets, the former sports rights from ESPN America for Germany, Austria and Switzerland were acquired by Sport1 Medien and are to be used for Sport1 .

On August 1, 2013, the station Sport1 US started on many platforms on the former broadcasting slot of ESPN America. The plans for a channel Sportamerica HD were then discontinued. There is no space for two US sports channels in Germany, said Giesbert Wundram from Sportdigital.
