Florian Scheiber (born May 17, 1987 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian ski racer and today's trainer. He won the overall ranking of the European Cup in the 2008/09 season and was Austrian Super-G Champion in 2008 .

biography

Scheiber drives for the Sölden - Hochsölden ski club , attended the Stams ski trade school and is a member of the Innsbruck Army Sports Center. In April 2002 he won the Whistler Cup giant slalom . He contested his first FIS race in December 2002, his first victory in the Super Combined from Saalbach-Hinterglemm on April 2, 2007. Scheiber competed in the European Cup for the first time in January 2005, and a month later he won the Junior World Championship 2005 in the Italian Bardonecchia the silver medal in the giant slalom and the bronze medal in the combined ranking.

In the 2007/08 European Cup season , Scheiber achieved third place in the overall standings with a win and nine further placements among the top ten, and in March 2008 he was Austrian Super-G champion at the same time as Rainer Schönfeld . In the 2008/09 season he won a Super-G victory (at the same time as Petr Záhrobský ) and three more podiums and thus finished second in the Super-G final ranking behind Záhrobský. In addition, he won the overall European Cup ranking, which gave him a permanent place in all World Cup races of the 2009/10 season .

Scheiber made his first appearance in the World Cup on February 21, 2009 in the giant slalom in Sestriere , but was canceled in the first run. He reached his first World Cup points on November 29, 2009 at the Super-G in Lake Louise with 28th place. After a fall two weeks later at the Super-G in Val-d'Isère , he had to pause for four weeks. When he returned to the World Cup, he was injured again. On January 15, 2010, he tore the medial meniscus in his knee on the super combination descent in Wengen and had an operation. So he was out for the rest of the season.

In the 2010/11 season, Scheiber did not take part in any World Cup races. In addition to FIS races, he was only used in the European Cup, where he was among the top ten five times. After two years in the A-team of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV), he was relegated back to the B-team in 2011. In the 2011/12 season Scheiber was able to establish himself at the top again in the European Cup. He won four Super-Gs and one Downhill, won the overall and Super-G ratings and came second in the Downhill classification. After the good performance in the European Cup, he came back to three World Cup appearances. After the winter he rose from the B to the A squad again.

On November 30, 2012, Scheiber achieved his best World Cup result with 4th place in the downhill from Beaver Creek . On May 30, 2016, Florian Scheiber announced his retirement from active ski racing via Facebook.

In May 2020, Scheiber rose as the successor to Roland Assinger to become the women's group trainer of the “World Cup Speed I” training group and thus de facto to the speed head coach of the Austrian women's world cup team.
