Magine TV was an internet television platform that could be used both via a web browser and apps. Magine TV was originally based in Sweden. In spring 2018, Magine Germany went into business for herself. Free content from Magine TV was only available to users within Germany. Paid content was available to German user accounts across the EU in accordance with the EU Portability Regulation (2018).
history
Magine TV was founded in Sweden in March 2013. In a first round of financing, the company said it was able to acquire around 19 million US dollars from Swedish and international investors, thus securing the capital for further expansion projects. After a beta test phase, Magine TV was launched on April 24, 2014 in Germany, the company's first foreign market. Magine TV's initial offering consisted of 48 free TV and 5 pay TV channels as well as all regional windows of the third programs. In addition to the already free range of public broadcasters, users were initially also able to stream private broadcasters for free via the platform. A new cost model was introduced on September 4, 2014. Since October 2014, the private and pay TV channels are chargeable and can be booked as part of various channel packages.
Under the motto “TV for Me”, the service originally aimed at increasing the individualization of the television experience, which also included selecting and deselecting individual channels. However, this product strategy was abandoned in July 2015. Users can now choose between free access with access to the public broadcasters and two payment packages. Magine TV was the first streaming company that was able to offer the RTL Group's channels in HD.
On January 28, 2019, it was announced that Magine TV's offer would be discontinued at the end of February 2019. In the course of the discontinuation, the TV streaming customers will be referred to Zattoo .
Availability
Magine TV's end customer service is primarily offered in Germany. In Sweden, Magine Pro is now concentrating on providing the technology for customers in the B2B sector.
Magine TV has licenses for the broadcasted channels. The creation of an account in order to gain access to the content must therefore take place in the country in which the sender's copyright license is located (Germany).
financing
Magine TV uses a “freemium” model. Public broadcasters and certain private TV channels such as Comedy Central and Tele 5 are available to users for free streaming. Additional private and pay TV channels can be booked for a fee as part of channel packages.

Magine TV can be used via every common browser on Mac and PC. Magine TV also offers apps for smartphones and tablets with the Android and iOS operating systems . Since September 2014 Magine TV also supports Google Chromecast . In March 2016, the company launched an app for Amazon Fire TV that also enabled in-app payments for the first time.
