Marcelo de Oliveira Santos , called Marcelo Oliveira , (born March 4, 1955 in Pedro Leopoldo , Minas Gerais ) is a former Brazilian soccer player and active coach.

Player career

society

As a player he was active for Atlético Mineiro from 1973/74 to 1978 and scored 18 goals in 76 missions during this time. From 1979 to 1982 he was listed as a player for Botafogo FR . During this period, the statistics show him 36 games played and six goals scored. In 1982 a career station followed at Nacional Montevideo in Uruguay. In 1983 he was again in the ranks of Atlético Mineiro, came twelve times and scored once in the opposing goal. In 1984 he played for Desportiva Ferroviária . In 1985 he was part of the América Mineiro squad .

National team

For the Brazilian national team, he completed a total of at least six international matches in 1975 and 1977 and scored one goal.

Coaching

After his active career, he began a career as a coach. In this role he was in charge of Paraná Clube from January 2010 to October 2010 and Coritiba FC from January 2011 to September 2012 . He then took over this position at CR Vasco da Gama until November 2012 . From December 2012 to June 2015 he trained Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte . He led the club to the national championship in 2013 and 2014. Since June 2015 he has been the coach of Palmeiras São Paulo . There he won the Copa do Brasil with the team in 2015 . After losing 2-1 in the Copa Libertadores 2016 against his former club Nacional Montevideo , he was sacked on the same day.

In the spring of 2016 Oliveira moved to Atlético Mineiro . There he made his debut in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A 2016 on the second day of the season. After losing 3-1 at home on November 23, 2016 against Grêmio Porto Alegre in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil 2016 final , Oliveira was relieved of his post on November 24, 2016.

On July 20, 2017, Coritiba announced that Oliveira would return to coaching the club until the end of the season. Oliviera looked after the club in ten league games until the end of the 2017 season. After the decision was made on the last day of the match that Coritiba had to relegate to Série B , his contract was not extended. At the end of June he took over Fluminense Rio de Janeiro in the current 2018 season . On the penultimate day of the championship, Oliveira was released again.
