Sinop FC coat of arms

The Sinop Futebol Clube is a Brazilian soccer club that was founded in 1977 and is based in the city of Sinop in the state of Mato Grosso . The colors of the club are blue and white, the Brazilian mascot is a rooster.

In 1995 Sinop was part of the third Brazilian soccer league, the Série C , and in 1999 and 2000 the club also took part in the national cup competition, the Copa do Brasil .

In the 1990s, the club was able to show great success at the state level and was national champion of Mato Grosso three times in 1990, 1998 and 1999 . Sinop was able to break the dominance of the clubs EC Operário from Várzea Grande and Mixto EC from the state capital Cuiabá at short notice .

In 1987, the then fourteen-year-old Rogério Ceni , now FC São Paulo , joined the club and only three years later he won the first title with the first team Sinops. Today Ceni is considered the most dangerous goalkeeper of all time. The Brazilian Footballer of the Year from 2008 can well imagine returning to the club after the end of his professional career. Ceni still has family in town and visits them regularly.

The club plays its home games in the Estádio Municipal Gigante do Norte , which can accommodate 25,000 spectators.
