An Ideal Couple (Original Title: Made for Each Other ) is an American drama film starring James Stewart and Carole Lombard from 1939.
action
John Horace Mason is a young attorney in New York City . Mason marries the attractive Jane - to the horror of his chief Judge Doolittle, who, like John's mother, had expected him to marry Doolittle's daughter Eunice. So your married life starts right away with a large mortgage. After a short honeymoon, they move into their own apartment. The next difficulty awaits them there: John's overly critical mother moves in with them. Gifted attorney John hopes to partner with Judge Doolittle's law firm, but is passed over.
After the birth of the son, the small family's financial situation becomes more difficult. The old fox turns the discussion with Judge Doolittle about a raise into a lower salary. Jane is now forced to look for work. The marriage gets into a crisis. Finally, on New Year's Eve, they split up. John stays in the apartment with the baby and his mother. Jane moves out. When she hears that Baby John is sick, she learns from her mother-in-law that the boy's illness is more serious. In the hospital, the parents learn that the boy only has a chance of survival if he is given a special drug as soon as possible. However, the drug is only available in Salt Lake City and the city is hit by a terrible snowstorm. However, the pilot Conway is ready to fly there for $ 5000. Judge Doolittle has a heart this time and gives John the money he needs. Conway is on his way.
In the meantime, the heroic deed has reached the media and is becoming a mass event through radio broadcasts. The plane crashes on the way to Salt Lake City, but Conway is saved. The pilot reaches a farm with a broken leg and the medicine can be transported to New York in time. The child is saved and the parents come back together. Judge Doolittle eventually decides to partner with John in his law firm.
background
The film was shot from August to October 1938 and had its world premiere on February 10, 1939. The film never came into cinemas in Germany and was only shown in 1978 on television ( ARD ). The idea for the story of the flight to get the essential medicine for the sick child from Salt Lake City to New York is based on David O. Selznick's experience when he took medicine from New York to Los Angeles for his sick brother Myron Selznick had let fly. Jo Swerling wrote the script based on a short story by Rose Franken .
