Jo Swerling

Jo Swerling (born April 18, 1893 in Berdychiv , Russian Empire , † October 23, 1964 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter of Russian descent.

Life

Jo Swerling came to the United States as a child. He wrote newspaper articles and short stories before writing plays for the stage . With the introduction of the sound film, he had the opportunity to work on scripts for very successful films . Swerling was at home in almost all genres and wrote scripts for comedies as well as westerns , adventure films and musicals . From the 1950s onwards he worked almost exclusively for television .

He is the father of scientist Peter Swerling and television producer Jo Swerling Jr.
