Geovanni Deiberson Maurício Gómez (born January 11, 1980 in Acaiaca ), Geovanni for short , is a Brazilian football player . He plays most of the attacking midfield but can also be used as a winger for both sides.

Club career

Geovanni started his career in 1997 at Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte . The Brazilian football experts confirmed that he had great talent at an early age. From 1998 to 1999 he was loaned to América Mineiro and was able to convince there. He scored one goal in 15 games. After this loan he became a regular at his favorite club from Belo Horizonte .

FC Barcelona

In 2001 he moved to FC Barcelona for 20,000,000 euros and signed a four-year contract there. In his first season in the Spanish premier league, he played 21 games. Most of the time he was a substitute. In his second season he was no longer considered as much by coach Carles Rexach . He only played five games during the 2002/2003 season and was loaned to Benfica Lisbon at the beginning of the following season .

SL Benfica

After showing very good performances during his loan period at Benfica, the Portuguese club signed Geovanni at the end of 2003. He signed a four-year contract and switched for 15,000,000 euros. Most of the time he was a regular for the team and was even named the club's best player in 2004 and 2005.

After a very successful time at Benfica, he resigned from his contract for family reasons in 2006 to return to Brazil. He played a total of 114 games for the Portuguese and scored 18 goals.

Return to Brazil

Arrived in Brazil over 1,000 fans were waiting for the new man at Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte. He signed a one-year contract. After clearing his family problems, he returned to Europe after a year.

Manchester City

In July 2007 he completed a trial training at Portsmouth FC , but then decided on Manchester City . He scored a goal in his first game. There he could not convince and was released after a year.

Hull City

On July 5, 2008, he moved to Hull City . He scored that first Premier League goal in the club's history against Fulham . At the end of the season, he scored the most goals at Hull City. In September 2009, he extended his contract to 2011. At the beginning of the 2009/2010 season, he got off to a very good start, scoring four goals in seven games. Despite this good performance, he terminated his contract on July 5, 2010 by mutual agreement.

San Jose Earthquakes

On August 16, 2010, Geovanni was introduced as the new player of the San José Earthquakes . He is the first player in the club to receive a contract as a "designated player". On September 5, he made his Major League Soccer debut , scoring one goal and one assist in the game against Houston Dynamo .

EC Vitória

On January 30, 2011, he signed a 2-year contract with EC Vitória , who was playing in the Brazilian Série B at the time.

National team

His only appearance in the Brazilian national football team was on July 12, 2001, in the team's first round match at the 2001 Copa America against Mexico .

At the 2000 Summer Olympics , he was also part of the Brazilian team. He was on the pitch in all four games.
