Axel Rodrigues de Arruda , better known as Axel , (born January 9, 1970 in Santos ) is a former Brazilian football player.
Career
FC Santos (1989-1993)
Axel began his career in 1989 in his hometown at FC Santos , where he played five league games in his debut season, but initially without scoring. The following year played 19 league games in which he could score twice. After Axel played eleven league games in 1991 (no goal), he scored once in the 1992 season and in the last season he played at FC Santos a year later (1992: 19 appearances / 1993: 13 appearances). In 1994 he switched to São Paulo FC .
Sao Paulo FC (1994-1997)
After five years in Santos, he signed a contract with São Paulo FC , where he played until 1997. In his first year with the Tricolors , he played 14 league games in which he scored two goals. Exact numbers of stakes for all seasons are not known, but in the four years Axel was on the pitch for São Paulo at least 29 times and scored two goals. In 1997/98 he ventured to Europe , to the Spanish club Sevilla FC .
Remaining career (1997-2010)
During his time in Seville, Axel was used relatively often (24 games / 1 goal), but at the end of the season he returned to his native Brazil and signed a contract with EC Bahia . He didn't last long there either, in 1999 he moved to Atlético Mineiro , where he had 15 league appearances by the end of the season. A year later he had a short interlude of five league games with his old club São Paulo. After he was a member of Sport Recife's squad in 2001 and 2002 and tried his hand at Botafogo FC (SP) from Santos in 2003 , Axel moved again abroad to Japan to Cerezo Osaka . After 15 league games in the Far East, this chapter was over, he returned to South America and played in 2004 and 2005 for the clubs Paraná Clube (31 games / 3 goals) and Figueirense FC (14 games / no goal).
From 2006 to 2010 Axel played for the lower-class clubs AA Portuguesa (Santos) , EC Pelotas , AE Santacruzense , Jabaquara AC and Camboriú FC . After his contract expired in 2010 with the latter club, he ended his active career.
National team
In 1992, he played one match for the Brazilian national football team , which remained goalless.
