The Volta Redonda FC - as VR FC abbreviated and also as Voltaço known - is a Brazilian football club from Volta Redonda in the state of Rio de Janeiro . The club's first team will play in the country's third-highest division, the Série C , in the 2018 season .

history

After the unification of the states of Guanabara and Rio de Janeiro , decided in 1974, the amateur clubs Federação Carioca de Futebol and Federação Fluminense de Desportos merged. On February 9, 1976, the new football club Volta Redonda FC was founded. He pursued the goal of representing the city of Volta Redonda at the State Championship of Rio de Janeiro . In 2005, the club celebrated one of its greatest successes when it won the Taça Guanabara for the first time and thus joined the ranks of the big clubs from Rio de Janeiro and the surrounding area. At the Copa do Brasil , the club achieved another surprise success a year later, when they beat Athletico Paranaense and América Mineiro and made it to the cup quarter-finals.
