Sylvinho (born April 12, 1974 in São Paulo ; real name Silvio Mendes Campos Júnior ) is a former Brazilian - Spanish soccer player and current soccer coach.
Career
society
Sylvinho began his professional career in 1994 with Corinthians São Paulo , with whom he won the Brazilian Cup in 1995 . In addition to several other titles, he won the national championship with Corinthians in 1998 .
In 1999, the left-back moved to the English first division club Arsenal , in whose team he was to replace the then 35-year-old Nigel Winterburn in the long term . He played for the top club until 2002, with whom he won the English championship and the FA Cup . He was the first Brazilian to join the Gunners' team . Due to an injury to Sylvinho in the 2000/01 season, Ashley Cole got a place in Arsenal's team, which he did not lose to the Brazilian even after his recovery. This led to Sylvinho being sold to the Spanish club Celta Vigo in the summer of 2001 .
In Sylvinhos first season with the Spanish first division club Vigo, the team finished fifth in the Primera División; this was followed by fourth place in the final table in 2002/03 and thus qualifying for the Champions League . In the following season 2003/04 Vigo was 19th in the table and rose to the Segunda División , whereupon Sylvinho left the club and moved to the top club FC Barcelona .
With Barcelona, Sylvinho won the Spanish championship in 2005 and 2006 . In 2006 the Champions League was also won, in the final of which Barça beat Sylvinho's former club Arsenal 2-1.
After the 2007/08 season, his contract, which actually ran until 2008, was extended to 2009. Although he had ended his career in public, the English club Manchester City signed Sylvinho in the 2009/2010 season. There he received a contract for a year. After ten league appearances for the Citizens , he looked unsuccessfully for a new club for a year and finally ended his career in 2011.
National team
In 2000 and 2001, Sylvinho played six caps for the Brazilian selection .
Trainer
In his first coaching position, he was head coach from July to the beginning of October 2019 for 3 months at Olympique Lyon, but was dismissed after only 11 games due to unsuccessfulness. His successor was the former coach of Olympique de Marseille, Rudi Garcia.
After the end of his career in 2010, Sylvinho returned to Brazil and gained experience in the first Brazilian league as an assistant coach at Sport Recife , Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte and Corinthians São Paulo . In early December 2014, he became the assistant to Inter Milan's head coach Roberto Mancini , whom he knows from working together at Manchester City.
