João Carlos , whose full name is João Carlos Pinto Chaves (born January 1, 1982 in Realengo ), is a former Brazilian football player . His preferred position was central defense.

Career

João Carlos started his career at CR Vasco da Gama , where he played until 2002. For the 2002/03 season he moved to CSKA Sofia , with whom he became Bulgarian champion in 2003. After two years he left CSKA Sofia and switched to SC Lokeren . He played for Lokeren for four years and then went to league rivals KRC Genk, where he signed a four-year contract. With Genk he won the Belgian Cup in 2009 . From January 2011 to August 2013 he was under contract with Anzhi Makhachkala .

On August 21, 2013, João Carlos moved to Spartak Moscow . He immediately got a permanent place in the defense. In the 2014/15 season , his missions became less frequent. In the summer of 2015, he moved to CR Vasco da Gama in his Brazilian homeland for six months , but was not deployed there. At the beginning of 2016, SC Lokeren signed him. In October 2016 he terminated his contract and moved to the al-Jazira Club in the United Arab Emirates. There he won the 2017 championship with his team . However, he was only used in eight games.

João Carlos Madureira joined EC in his native Brazil in early 2018 , but ended his active career there just five months later.
