Master or ascent | |||||||
Even at the previous club, the Wacker Innsbruck football club , there was a women's football section, which Gabi Reiter founded in 1979 and played under the name of her father's company, FC Möbel-Reiter Innsbruck. In the spring of 1982 the team was officially registered under the name FC Wacker Innsbruck. For financial and geographical reasons, they took part out of competition from 1983 in the Bavarian District League, which they won in an unofficial competition in 1985 and 1986. The ÖFB Women's Football Cup took part for the first time in the 1981/82 season and in the 1984/85 season they won the cup against LUV Graz 2-0. From the 1986/87 season, the Tyrolean women took part in the DFB Cup.
FC Wacker Innsbruck-Mittenwald was founded on May 22, 1986 to officially take part in the championship in Bavaria and in the DFB Cup. In the cup, the women from Innsbruck lost to FC Oberau (1987) and FC Bayern Munich (1988). The newly founded club began in the A-Class Bayern, which you could win in the first year and thus was eligible to play for the District League Upper Bavaria 1987/88. Due to the lack of support from the club and a lack of sponsors for the many trips to Upper Bavaria, the championship was eliminated in the 1988/89 season and dissolved.

At the beginning of the 2006/07 season , the women's division of the Innsbruck AC was taken over. Due to the club change, the team had to relegate the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga and compete in the 2nd Women's League West. However, the women of FC Wacker Innsbruck achieved immediate promotion with an impressive goal difference of 160: 2 goals.
In the first year in the ÖFB women's league they immediately became runner-up and the team was honored with the Bruno (Prize of the Association of Footballers) for Team of the Year. The runner-up title was also achieved in the following two years. In the following years FC Wacker Innsbruck took two third and two fourth places. In contrast to the men's department, women are continuously among the top 4 in Austria until 2015. For the next two years, the women's team played for the back seats in order to be relegated to the 2nd women's division in 2017 in the middle / west. With first place, the team qualified for the relegation to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga, which was played in two games, and rose with two wins, 2-0 and 5-0, over the second in the 2nd East / South League, Carinthians Spittal , in the Bundesliga.
