Second performance level - 2nd division
The 2nd league represents the second highest performance group in Austrian women's football. In order to reduce the costs for the clubs, it is divided into two regional groups: 2nd league middle / west and 2nd league east / south.
The second performance level consisted of two leagues, separated by region:
- 2. League Middle / West with the clubs from Upper Austria ( OFV ), Salzburg ( SFV ), Tyrol ( TFV ) and Vorarlberg ( VFV ) and
- 2. League East / South with the clubs from Burgenland ( BFV ), Carinthia ( KFV ), Lower Austria ( NÖFV ), Styria ( StFV ) and Vienna ( WFV ).
In the 2nd division , a maximum of 24 teams play for promotion to the ÖFB women's league. In the 2017/18 season, a total of 13 teams played for promotion to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga (5 second teams from clubs were not eligible for promotion!).
The general mode stipulates that each team competed against each other in the respective league. The champions of the two leagues played in a relegation for promotion to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga. The bottom of the table in each league was relegated.
