The Austrian women's soccer championship was held for the 30th time in 2001/02 after the 35-year break between 1938 and 1972. The top division is the women's Bundesliga and was held for the 20th time. The second highest division , the 23rd edition this season, was divided into four regional leagues, with the 2nd division middle for the 2nd time, the 2nd division east for the 8th time, the regional league west for the 8th time and the regional league Styria was held for the 3rd time.

Austrian soccer champion was Innsbruck AC for the first time . The champions of the second highest division were SV Garsten (middle), SG Ardagger / Neustadtl (east), FC Lingenau (west) and ASV St. Margarethen / Lavanttal (Landesliga Styria).

    Second performance level

    In order to reduce the costs for the clubs, this is played out in four regional groups: 2nd Division Middle, 2nd Division East, Landesliga Styria and Regionalliga West.

    The second performance level consisted of four leagues, separated by region:

    • 2nd division center with the clubs from Carinthia ( KFV ), Upper Austria ( OFV ) and Salzburg ( SFV ),
    • 2nd Division East with the clubs from Burgenland ( BFV ), Lower Austria ( NÖFV ) and Vienna ( WFV ),
    • Landesliga Steiermark ( StFV ), including clubs from Carinthia ( KFV ) and
    • Regionalliga West with the clubs from Tyrol ( TFV ) and Vorarlberg ( VFV ).

    This season, Carinthian clubs had the option of joining the 2nd Middle Division or the Styrian Regional League. That is why SV Spittal / Drau played in the 2nd division center until the 2008/09 season and ASV St. Margarethen / Lavanttal played in the Styrian regional league this season and next.

    2nd division middle

    The league consisted of eight clubs that played a round trip against each other. The champions of the 2nd division center were determined in 14 rounds. The last-placed club was relegated to the state league.

    The league consisted of seven clubs that played a round trip against each other. The champions of the 2nd division east were determined in 12 rounds.

    Season course

    As in the previous year, the league consisted of seven teams. Compared to last year, SC Pinkafeld and SV Groß-Schweinbarth were represented in this championship instead of the promoted club SC Damen Dörfl and ASK Erlaa, who had been relegated to the state league . This season's championship in the 2nd Division East was the game community SG Ardagger / Neustadtl , which is therefore entitled to play in the highest performance class next season.

    The league consisted of nine clubs that played a round trip against each other. The champions of the Regionalliga West were determined in 16 rounds.

    Season course

    The Regionalliga West began on August 25, 2001 and ended on June 8, 2002 with the 16th round. The champions were FC Lingenau , who did not want to move up to the top division. FC Mellau , New Energy 95 Dornbirn and FC Fussach were relegated.
