The Austrian women's football championship 1978/79 was the seventh championship in Austrian women's football after the 35-year break between 1938 and 1972. It consisted of the tenth edition of a top division ( women's league east - 1st level ) and was organized by the Vienna Football Association organized. Champion was the SV Elektra Vienna , who thus won his second title.

Everyone played against everyone three times in a total of twelve rounds. A win was rewarded with two points, a draw with one point.

Season course

The league was composed of seven clubs compared to the previous year, in which six teams participated, with two teams being represented for the first time this season. The USC Halbturn was originally a member of the championship, did not appear in any game and therefore had to relegate to the second performance level instead of the SC-ESV Parndorf , which was held for the first time next season.
