The Austrian women's soccer championship was held for the 44th time in 2015/16 after the 35-year break between 1938 and 1972. The top division is the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga and was held for the third time. The second highest division ( 2nd division ), this season the 37th edition, was divided into two regional leagues, with the 2nd division middle / west being held for the 7th time and the 2nd division east / south for the 5th time . The season lasted from mid-August to mid-June.

The FSK St. Pölten-Spratzern became Austrian football champions for the second time in a row . The champions of the second highest division were FC Bergheim Women (middle / west) and ASK Erlaa (east / south). FC Bergheim Women prevailed in the relegation games and was therefore entitled to play in the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season .

    Second performance level - 2nd division

    The second performance level consisted of two leagues, separated by region:

    • 2. League Middle / West with the clubs from Upper Austria ( OFV ), Salzburg ( SFV ), Tyrol ( TFV ) and Vorarlberg ( VFV ) and
    • 2. League East / South with the clubs from Burgenland ( BFV ), Carinthia ( KFV ), Lower Austria ( NÖFV ), Styria ( StFV ) and Vienna ( WFV ).

    In the 2nd division , a maximum of 24 teams play for promotion to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga. In the 2015/16 season, a total of twelve teams played for promotion to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga, seven second teams from clubs were not eligible for promotion.

    The general mode stipulates that each team competed against each other in the respective league. The champions of the two leagues played in a relegation for promotion to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga. The bottom of the table in each league was relegated.

    The women's team from FC Bergheim Damen won the 2nd division Middle / West and is entitled to play the relegation for the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga for the 2016/17 season.

    2LMW2The second team from FC Wacker Innsbruck did not start the game against Heeres SV Wals on June 6, 2016 and the game was certified 3-0 for the Salzburg women. The reason for this was that the Innsbruck women could not provide enough players. Therefore, if there is a tie with other clubs, FC Wacker Innsbruck will be ranked back.

    Relegation

    Relegation to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga

    There was a relegation duel for promotion to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga for the 2016/17 season , which was played in a first leg and a second leg. The relegation to the ÖFB Frauen-Bundesliga was contested by the champions of the 2nd division middle / west and the 2nd division east / south. With promotion to the women's Bundesliga, FC Bergheim Damen advanced to become the second women's football club from the state of Salzburg in the top division of Austria. The first leg took place on the sports field in Bergheim near Salzburg, the second leg in the federal sports center Südstadt.
