Life

After two one-year internships in a machine factory and a bank in Bremen, he studied mechanical engineering and later business administration with a focus on marketing and company history. In 1980 he started his own business for old-timer spare parts and literature. In 1987, Kurz wrote his first book. It was about the VW type 181 bucket . At the end of the 80s he was one of the founders of the motorcycle rider magazine "GummikuH".

In 1995, the man from Bremen acquired the image archive, consisting of positives, negatives and the rights of use, from photographer Gerhard Schammelt, who mainly depicted Lloyd , Mercedes-Benz and VW vehicles. This stock of approximately 12,000 images was expanded by purchasing other archives. Short was able to acquire the bequests and rights of the photographers Paul Botzenhardt (German and French automobiles), Rudolf Dodenhoff (various brands), Heinz Lutz (GDR vehicles), Walter Richleske ( Borgward ), Hans Saebens (various brands), Karl-Heinz Witte (Lloyd and Goliath) and Hermann Ohlsen (Architecture Bremen). Today his picture archive includes around 150,000 photos of automobiles from the 1950s and 1960s as well as the aviation industry in Bremen ( Henrich Focke , Focke-Wulf ) from the 1920s and 1930s.

Short published the book series “Cars from Bremen” (13 volumes) between 1996 and 2013, which describes the history of the Bremen motor vehicle industry ( Borgward , Hanomag , Mercedes-Benz ). In Delius Klasing Verlag , he published the series “Moving Times”, which presented various automobiles from the 1950s. Today, Kurz is working on a 14-volume Borgward chronicle in his specialty. Kurz is a member of the forum for vehicle history (F-Kubik).
