Joseph Lucien Jean Gonzague DeBlois (born June 21, 1957 in Joliette , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and coach who worked for the New York Rangers , Colorado Rockies , Winnipeg Jets , Montréal Canadiens from 1973 to 1992, among others , Québec Nordiques and Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League .

Career

Lucien DeBlois began his career as a hockey player with the Éperviers de Sorel , for which he was active from 1973 to 1977 in the Canadian junior league QMJHL . He was then selected in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft in the first round as the eighth player of the New York Rangers . In addition, the Québec Nordiques selected him from the World Hockey Association in the WHA Amateur Draft of the same year, but the attacker opted for the offer of the New York Rangers. For the team from New York City he played for two years in the National Hockey League before he was given to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Barry Beck on November 2, 1979 together with Pat Hickey , Mike McEwen , Dean Turner . He also spent two seasons with the Rockies.

From 1981 to 1984 DeBlois was on the ice for the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL. He was then transferred to the Montréal Canadiens in exchange for Perry Turnbull . With the team from Québec, he won the prestigious Stanley Cup for the first and only time in his career in the 1985/86 season . He scored 14 goals in 72 games and gave another 17 templates. After this success he returned to the New York Rangers, where he had started his NHL career. There he spent a total of three seasons before he spent a year and a half for the Québec Nordiques, which in the meantime had also moved to the NHL after the dissolution of the WHA. At the beginning of the 1990/91 season , the Toronto Maple Leafs took the left-handed shooter under contract. However, he ended his career at his ex-club Winnipeg Jets, in addition to which he had switched to Mark Osborne in exchange for Mark Osborne shortly before the end of the trade deadline in the 1991/92 season , at the age of 35.

After his career as a player, DeBlois worked in the 1995/96 season initially as head coach of the Moncton Alpines from the QMJHL, and then for two years as assistant coach for the Kansas City Blades from the International Hockey League . On the occasion of the Heroes of Hockey Game , which took place as part of the NHL All-Star Games , he laced his ice skates again in 2001.

For Canada DeBlois took part in the 1981 World Cup, where he finished fourth with his team.
