Edward Dean Kennedy (born January 17, 1963 in Redvers , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 753 games for the Los Angeles Kings , New York Rangers , Buffalo Sabers , Winnipeg Jets and in the course of his active career between 1982 and 1995 Edmonton Oilers has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender .

Career

Kennedy began his junior career in 1979 with the Weyburn Red Wings in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League , before moving to the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League for a good two years in the summer of 1980 . During this time, the defender was selected in the second round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft in 39th place by the Los Angeles Kings from the National Hockey League .

During the 1982/83 season , the Kings brought the defender into the NHL squad. After he had spent the first year with the Kings and had only been loaned to the Saskatoon Blades for four games in the WHL, his assignments were divided between the Kings and their farm team in the following game year . With the New Haven Nighthawks he then also spent the entire 1984/85 season in the American Hockey League . From the fall of 1985 he was finally a regular for the Los Angeles Kings for the next three years. It was not until December 1988 that Kennedy and Denis Larocque were given to the New York Rangers , who in return transferred Igor Liba , Michael Boyce , Todd Elik and other donations to Los Angeles. Kennedy's stint in the Big Apple lasted only two months and 16 games, since the Kings brought him back in February 1989 for a four-round suffrage in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft .

In early October 1989, the Canadian was again involved in a transfer business when Los Angeles' management gave him to the Buffalo Sabers shortly before the start of the season . In return, they received a four-round vote in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft . In Buffalo, Kennedy found a sporting home for the next two seasons up to the fall of 1991. In October 1991 Kennedy then moved with Darrin Shannon and Mike Hartman for Dave McLlwain , Gord Donnelly , a five-round suffrage in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft and other contributions to the Winnipeg Jets . Just over a month after the move, the defender injured his knee badly at his new employer and was out for a long time, so that he could only play 20 games in the 1991/92 season . In the course of the 1992/93 season , Kennedy was appointed to the new team captain until the end of the season due to the transfer of the previous team captain Troy Murray . The following season he was replaced by Keith Tkachuk . Overall, Kennedy stayed with the team until January 1995. Shortly before the start of the 1994/95 season , which was shortened by the lockout , he was put on the Jets' waiver list. From there, the Edmonton Oilers selected him . There he ended his active career after the season.
