Mikko Luoma (born June 22, 1976 in Jyväskylä ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with HC Bozen in the Erste Bank ice hockey league .
Career
Mikko Luoma began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at Diskos Jyväskylä , with whose professional team he rose to the second-class I divisioona in 1995 and 1997 . From 1998 to 2000 the defender played for his city rivals JYP Jyväskylä in the SM-liiga before he was under contract with Tappara Tampere for three years . With Tappara he was Finnish champion for the first time in the 2002/03 season after he had failed with his team in the finals in the two previous years. During his time in Tampere, the left-shooter was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the sixth round as a total of 181 players by the Edmonton Oilers , who ordered him to North America in the summer of 2003 . There he was only used three times by the Oilers in the National Hockey League , while he spent the rest of the time in their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Toronto Roadrunners .
For the 2004/05 season Luoma returned to Europe, where he signed with the Malmö Redhawks from the Swedish Elitserien , with whom he missed relegation at the end of the season. Instead of going to the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan with the team , he signed with Linköpings HC , with whom he lost to MODO Hockey in the 2007 playoff final . The national player then left the club and played for two years for the HV71 , with whom he won the Swedish championship in the 2007/08 season . In the following season the former NHL player reached the finals again with HV71, but had to admit defeat with his team to rival Färjestad BK . In addition, he was in the 2008/09 season in all four group games of the newly founded Champions Hockey League on the ice, where he gave a template.
For the 2009/10 season, the Finn signed with Atlant Mytishchi from the Continental Hockey League , but returned a year later to the HV71. At HV71 he was one of the strongest offensive defenders in the following two seasons. In the 2012/13 season his point productivity declined, so he did not receive another contract extension and returned to JYP.
International
For Finland , Luoma took part in the 2006 and 2008 World Championships .
