Laurent Meunier (born January 16, 1979 in Saint-Martin-d'Hères ) is a former French ice hockey player .

Laurent Meunier began his career as a hockey player with the Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble , for which he made his Ligue Magnus debut in the 1996/97 season , with no point and penalty in two games. He then moved to their league rivals Lyon Hockey Club , for which he was active for the following three years. The attacker then went to North America, where he first studied for two years at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and at the same time took part in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's ice hockey team and then played one season for the Florida Everblades from the East Coast Hockey League .

In the summer of 2003, Meunier returned to France, where he was signed by his ex-club from Grenoble, with whom he first became runner-up in 2004 and reached the final of the Coupe de France in 2005 . In Grenoble he was also able to distinguish himself personally and in 2004 and 2005 received the Albert Hassler trophy as the best French player in the Ligue Magnus. After three years with the Brûleurs de Loups, the Frenchman moved to the Swiss National League A , where he was on the ice for Genève-Servette HC from 2006 to 2008 , where he was runner-up with Genève in the 2007/08 season . In the summer of 2008 Meunier initially received a contract with HK Dinamo Minsk from the newly founded Continental Hockey League , which was dissolved shortly after the start of the season without the right-shooter being used.

So he returned to Switzerland and played for Friborg-Gottéron . For the 2009/10 season he received a contract with Timrå IK in the Swedish Elitserien . In the summer of 2010 he was initially obliged by his ex-club Genève-Servette HC, but after the transfer of Richard Park no longer played for the team from Geneva. For this reason, he left the club in late September and joined HC La Chaux-de-Fonds from the National League B until early November . In this he was able to convince with two goals and nine assists in seven games. On November 25, 2010, the French international moved with immediate effect from HC La Chaux-de-Fonds to the Straubing Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League . By the end of the 2010/11 season he had scored 24 scorer points in 31 games for Bayern, including nine goals, whereupon the Straubing Tigers prematurely extended his contract on February 11, 2011 by two years until 2013. On February 28, 2014, Genève-Servette HC announced the return of the Frenchman. In order to save salary costs, the DEL club loaned him to the team from Switzerland. Meunier had previously missed part of the season due to a broken jaw. In the 2014/15 season , the striker led the Tigers onto the ice as captain. After five years in Bavaria, his contract was no longer renewed, whereupon Meunier left the Tigers. He then returned to Switzerland and joined HC La Chaux-de-Fonds, for which he was already active in the 2011/12 season.

Meunier was under contract with Friborg-Gottéron from 2017 to 2019 . After the 2018/19 season, the Frenchman ended his active career.

International

For France , Meunier took part in the junior division of the U18 Junior B European Championships in 1996 and 1997 and the U20 Junior B World Championships in 1997 , 1998 and 1999 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the B World Championships in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2005 , 2006 and 2007 and at the A World Championships in 1999 , 2000 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2011 . He also competed for France in the qualifying tournaments for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , 2006 in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver . In 2002 he was able to assert himself with France and played four games at the Winter Olympics, in which he gave an assist. Meunier has been captain of the French national team since the 2005 World Cup.
