Brad Smulders (born August 12, 1983 in Sarnia , Ontario , Canada ) is a former Dutch - Canadian ice hockey player who became Dutch champions in 2010 with the Nijmegen Devils .
Career
Clubs
Brad Smulders, who was born in the Canadian province of Ontario , began his career as a hockey player with the Strathroy Rockets junior team in the Greater Ontario Hockey League and moved to Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League , one of Canada's three major junior leagues , in 2001 . At the club from his hometown, however, he could not prevail and switched to local competitor Sarnia Blast from the lower-class Western Ontario Hockey League during the current season . He also spent the 2003/04 season at the London Nationals in WOHL. In 2004 he moved to Europe, where he played one year each for the Eaters Geleen , the Heerenveen Flyers , again the Eaters Geleen and the Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam in the honor division . From 2008 to 2010 he was on the ice with the Nijmegen Devils and won the Dutch ice hockey cup with them in 2009 and the Dutch championship in 2010 . During the summer break of 2009 he moved to the southern hemisphere, where he played for the Gold Coast Blue Tongues in the Australian Ice Hockey League and became the top scorer, top scorer and best preparer of the league. After another year in Geleen, he returned to North America in 2011 and ended his career with the Thousand Islands Privateers in the Federal Hockey League .
International
For the Netherlands , Smulders played at the Division I World Championships in 2007 when he was top scorer, top scorer (together with Estonian Andrei Makrov ) and best preparer (together with Frenchman Laurent Meunier ) of the tournament, and in 2008 . He also represented the team from the North Sea coast in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 .
