Master:	Aalborg Pirates

The 2017/18 Metal Ligaen season was the 61st season since the founding of the top division in Danish ice hockey , which has been called Metal Ligaen since 2014 . The main round took place from September 8, 2017 to February 27, 2018. The Hvidovre Fighters joined the league . The defending champion was Esbjerg Energy . For the first time, Aalborg Pirates became Danish champions, who beat Herning Blue Fox in six games . For the ice hockey in Aalborg it was a total of the 2nd championship after AaB Ishockey was able to secure the title in 1981. Rungsted Seier Capital secured 3rd place in 2 games against last year's champion Esbjerg Energy.

In the main round , the eleven clubs complete a triple round with 50 games per club. The best six teams in the main round qualify directly for the quarter-finals. The teams in places 7 to 10 play the remaining two participants in a "play-in" for the quarter-finals. In the first two playoff rounds, the teams may choose their playoff opponent in the order of their final placements, whereby the first placed may choose his opponent first. All play-off games from the quarter-finals to the final are played in the best-of-seven mode. There are three points for a win in regular time, two points for a win after overtime or a shootout and one point for a loss after overtime or a shootout.
