Kirill Sergejewitsch Kabanow ( Russian Кирилл Сергеевич Кабанов ; born July 16, 1992 in Moscow ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Aalborg Pirates from the Danish Metal Ligaen since 2019 .

Career

Kabanow began his ice hockey career in the offspring of HK CSKA Moscow . In the summer of 2007 he moved to city rivals HK Spartak Moscow and was at the age of 15 during the 2007/08 season for the first time in the squad of the second senior team, which played in the third-rate Pervaya League . During the 2008/09 season , the now 16-year-old striker made his debut for Spartak's first team. Overall, he was used in ten games of the Continental Hockey League , points were denied him.

In the summer of 2009, Kabanov's move to North America caused a sensation. After his contract at Spartak had expired, the Russian joined Salawat Yulayev Ufa on July 16 and initially trained with the team. Since Salawat only offered him a contract with no release clause for the National Hockey League , Kabanov did not sign the contract. He left Ufa and moved to North America. There, the Moncton Wildcats from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec selected him in the first round in the CHL Import Draft 2009 in seventh place. Kabanov then joined the team. Salawat protested after the signing with the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF , because they insisted on having a valid contract with Kabanov that prohibited a move to North America. The IIHF did not share this view and confirmed the change on October 9, 2009.

Kabanow then played the season with the Moncton Wildcats, but completed only 22 games in which he scored 23 points. The reason for this was an operation on his wrist that he had sustained in the preseason in Russia, and a ten-week break that resulted from it. At the end of the season he won the Coupe du Président with the Wildcats , although he was only used once because he had been transferred to the Russian U18 junior national team, which was preparing for the U18 junior world championship , before he briefly after the start of the season - at the end of October 2010 - switched to the Lewiston MAINEiacs within the LHJMQ . There he came to 37 regular season appearances in the 2010/11 season. After scoring 28 points there, he got 20 points in 15 games in the subsequent playoffs. The MAINEiacs stopped playing after the end of the season and were relocated to Blainville in the Canadian province of Québec . There they should play the game year 2011/12 as Blainville-Boisbriand Armada . Kabanow was also part of the roster initially, although he was signed to the New York Islanders for three years on July 1, 2011 . They had previously selected him in the third round in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in 65th place. In mid-October 2011, however, the Islanders management decided to loan the striker to Färjestad BK from the Swedish Elitserien for a month . Since the Armada had already filled the foreign contingent and the striker was too young to play in the American Hockey League , loan was the only option. A few days later, however, his transfer rights within the LHJMQ were given to the Shawinigan Cataractes .

For this Kabanow completed the entire 2011/12 season and won the Memorial Cup with the team at the end of the season . The following season 2012/13 began the striker in the AHL farm team of the New York Islanders, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , and debuted for this on October 12, 2012 in an away game against the Connecticut Whale in the American Hockey League. There, however, the Russian was unable to establish himself due to his moderate offensive strength and was even given to the Stockton Thunder farm team in the lower class East Coast Hockey League in the following year , before he was awarded to MODO Hockey in the Svenska Hockeyligan in January 2014 . In the summer of 2014, Kabanow moved within the league to Skellefteå AIK , for which he played in the 2014/15 season.

In the summer of 2015, he took part in the New York Rangers training camp , but received no contract and therefore returned to Europe. At the end of October of the same year he was committed by the KHL club Salawat Yulayev Ufa . For Salawat he only played nine KHL games in the 2015/16 season and was then given over to Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk . He worked there until October 2016, before his contract was terminated due to a serious injury.

For the 2017/18 season, Kabaonov moved to the Aalborg Pirates team, with whom he became Danish champions and cup winners. The following season he signed a contract with the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League .

International

Kabanov represented his home country for the first time at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2008 . There he scored eleven points in five games, including nine assists . This made him the best template provider in the competition. A year later he played at the U18 World Junior Championship in the United States in 2009 . He won the silver medal after a 5-0 defeat in the final against the hosts. He himself contributed eleven scorer points in seven games. This made him the third-best scorer on his team and eighth-best of the entire tournament. He was also the youngest player in the Russian squad.

A year later, Kabanow was to play in the U18 Junior World Championship 2010 in Belarus and was released from his club team in April for this purpose. In the training camp before the tournament, however, he fell out with the Russian selection coach Mikhail Wassiljew and was removed from the squad due to disciplinary measures.
