Thomas Spelling (born February 9, 1993 in Herning ) is a Danish ice hockey player who has been under contract with SønderjyskE Ishockey in the Danish Metal Ligaen since 2013 .

Career

Thomas Spelling started ice hockey at his hometown club Herning Blue Fox. At the club from his hometown, the left shooter went through all youth teams and played for the first time in the reserve team of the Blue Fox in the 1st division in the 2008/09 season . In the following year he came to his first assignments in the AL-Bank Ligaen and played there for the entire season. In the 2010/11 season he won his first championship with the Blue Fox , in which he had a large share with 36 scorer points . In the following season he was able to repeat this success with his team. He also won the Danish Cup competition with Herning . He was able to increase himself to 57 scorer points in 50 games in the AL-Bank Ligaen.

In the 2012 NHL Entry Draft , Spelling was drafted in the fifth round in 142nd position by the New York Rangers .

In summer 2012 Spelling was signed by Rögle BK from the Swedish Elitserien . There he was used in his debut season in seven games and remained free of points and punishment. However, he spent most of the 2012/13 season for the U20 team in the J20 SuperElit , where he was the second best scorer of his team with 49 points from 36 games. The following year he returned to Denmark and signed for a year with SønderjyskE Ishockey , with which he was again Danish champion in 2014.

International

Spelling played for various national teams in Denmark at an early age. In 2010 and 2011 he took part in the Division I world championships with the U18 national youth team. In 2011, he represented his country also in the U20 Junior World Championship Division I . At both tournaments in 2011 he rose to the top division with the respective teams. For Denmark he also took part in the U20 Junior World Cup in 2012 , and also represented the country in 2013 after relegation to Division IA .
