The 1978/79 season was the 22nd season of the 1st division , the highest Danish ice hockey division . Vojens IK became champions for the first time in the club's history . The Frederikshavn White Hawks were relegated to the second division.

In the main round, each of the eight teams played a total of 28 games. The first place in the main round won the championship title. The last placed in the main round rose to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
