Kyle Wharton (born March 3, 1986 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a Canadian - British ice hockey player who has been under contract with Nikko Icebucks from the Asia League Ice Hockey since 2015 .

Career

Wharton began his career in the 2002/03 season with the Ottawa 67’s in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . After three seasons there, he joined league rivals Sault Ste during the 2005/06 season . Marie Greyhounds before moving to Guelph Storm within the league the following season . In the summer of 2006, the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League signed the Canadian, who had previously secured the transfer rights to him in the 2004 NHL Draft . In Columbus he was first given to the farm team , the Syracuse Crunch from the American Hockey League , and then loaned to the Eisbären Berlin after two games until the end of the season in the German Ice Hockey League .

In the summer of 2007, the left shooter returned to North America and completed the following two seasons in Syracuse, but was also used in the East Coast Hockey League, first with the Elmira Jackals and later with the Johnstown Chiefs . Between 2009 and 2012, the defender was on the ice with the university team of Saint Mary's University Halifax in the Canadian Interuniversity Sports / Ice Hockey and won the University Cup there in 2010 .

For the 2012/13 season Wharton moved again to Europe and signed a contract with Orli Znojmo from the Austrian ice hockey league . He completed the following season at the Czech club HC Slavia Prague in the Extraliga (Czech Republic) before returning to Austria for the 2014/15 season and being signed by the EC KAC .

From December 2014 he played at Esbjerg Energy in the Metal Ligaen before he was signed by the Nikko Icebucks from the Asia League Ice Hockey for the 2015/16 season .
