Michael "Mike" Vernace (born May 26, 1986 in Toronto , Ontario ) is an Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing for the Brampton Beasts in the East Coast Hockey League since October 2015 . His brother Daniel Vernace is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Michael Vernace began his career as an ice hockey player with the Brampton Battalion , for which he was active from 2003 to 2006 in the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the seventh round as a total of 201st player by the San Jose Sharks , for which he however never played, since he was on June 1, 2006 in exchange for a six-round suffrage in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 was submitted to the Colorado Avalanche . In the 2006/07 season, the defender was on the ice for the then farm teams of the Avalanche, the Arizona Sundogs from the Central Hockey League and Albany River Rats from the American Hockey League . He then played mainly for Colorado's new AHL farm team, the Lake Erie Monsters, for the next two years . In addition, the left shooter made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Denver team in the 2008/09 season , for which he remained pointless in twelve games in his rookie year .

After his contract was not renewed, Vernace signed on July 30, 2009 a one-year contract with the Atlanta Thrashers . He started the 2009/10 season on the farm team with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League and was there regularly during the season. In the same season, Vernace also went on the ice for the Hamilton Bulldogs before he was given in a transfer deal to the San Jose Sharks in June 2010 . After they hadn't signed him, Vernace signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning about a month later .

In December 2011 the Bolts transferred him to the Florida Panthers together with James Wright in exchange for Mike Kostka and Evan Oberg . This gave him shortly before the trade deadline , on February 25, 2012, together with a third-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2013 in exchange for Wojtek Wolski to the New York Rangers . In the following year and a half, Vernace was only used there for the Connecticut Whale farm team , before he decided to work in Europe in the summer of 2013 and joined the Adler Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League . Following the 2013/14 season , his contract in Mannheim was not extended, so he signed with Rögle BK from the second-class HockeyAllsvenskan and with the team achieved promotion to the Svenska Hockeyligan at the end of the season .

In October 2015 Vernace returned to North America and was signed by the Brampton Beasts from the East Coast Hockey League .
