Scott Gary Campbell (born June 22, 1957 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career, he played for the Houston Eros and Winnipeg Jets in the World Hockey Association , and the Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League .

Career

Campbell first played three years from 1974 to 1977 with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey Association , the forerunner of the Ontario Hockey League . His achievements, especially those in his last season with 67 points in 60 games as a defender , impressed the scouts of the two professional leagues at the time, the National Hockey League and the World Hockey Association, so much that he took first overall position in the 1977 WHA Amateur Draft by the Houston Eros and in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft in the first round in ninth position by the St. Louis Blues .

The Canadian decided to move to the Houston Eros for the time being, as more lucrative salaries were paid in the WHA to attract the players. After only a year in Houston he signed as a free agent with the Winnipeg Jets , where he spent the 1978/79 season, as Houston had completely stopped the game. Due to the total dissolution of the WHA in 1979 and the admission of the Jets to the NHL, Campbell also played in the NHL from the 1979/80 season . He was the only Jets player besides Morris Lukowich who was protected from the Dispersal Draft and stayed in Winnipeg, although the St. Louis Blues had done everything to finally be able to commit their former first round election. During the 1980/81 season , Campbell, who had already missed many games due to a shoulder injury, had an asthma problem , caused by the cool climate in Winnipeg. He therefore asked for a move and was finally sent to St. Louis in the summer of 1981 in a five-player transfer deal. There he only came to three missions because the drug treatment of his asthma had caused a vascular migraine headache . This forced him to end his career at the age of 25.
